The Empire Mine began operation in 1850 and continued for more than 100 years, producing more than 5 million ounces of gold. The grounds are also home to a 13 acre garden which includes some 950 rose bushes of more than 50 varieties. With underground tours available Empire Mine is a must see attraction.

This State Historic Park is on the site of the first large scale hydraulic mine in California. A park museum and day use area show the history of mining life in Northern California.

New for 2018. The Hidden Spruce Trail follows the shoreline just north of the campground near the park entrance offering an easy 3 mile hike and beautiful views of the lake & wildlife.
Campers and visitors enjoy walking the shoreline and trails around the lake as well as the Department of Fish & Game Wildlife Area right in our back yard. There's a mostly shady dirt road on the east side of the lake that campers are free to walk or bike. The land above the road is privately owned, but you're free to explore between the road and the lake. Camping and fires aren't allowed on the east shore but it's a great place to picnic and fish.
Daugherty Hill is public land managed by DFG. Hiking and biking are allowed seasonally in the summer.

Spenceville Rd
A 6 mile hike into the Spenceville Wild Life Area, Shingle Falls is a hidden gem tucked in among the red and black rocks of Nevada County's gold country. Shingle Falls is also known as Beale Falls.

Lumpkin Rd
Feather Falls is a spectacular 640 foot waterfall along the middle fork of the Feather River. The trail into the canyon is a 9 mile loop that goes down about 900 feet in elevation and then back up. There's a lookout in front of the falls as well as a trail that takes you all the way to to top. The Forest Service recommends planning 4 to 5 hours for the hike- bring plenty of water. Bicycles, horses and dogs are allowed on the trails

Biking trails that follow the ridge above the shoreline of Bullards Bar Reservoir. There's trails for beginning bikers (Vista Point to Dark Day) as well as winding single track for advance riders. Many people use Collins Lake a base camp for a day trip to Bullard Bar which has minimal camping facilities and no hookups. Bullards Bar does allow jet skis which you can launch from Emerald Cove or Dark Day.

Campground
Just behind our dam is a 2,600 acre DFG Wildlife Unit. Seasonal hunting is permitted for deer, turkey and quail (See DFG website for more information). Overnight camping in the Daugherty Hill area is not permitted by DFG however many hunters choose to camp here at the lake and access the wildlife area on foot from our campground. Discharge of firearms is not allowed on Collins Lake property. Always know the regulations for the current season and hunt safely.

The Spenceville public shooting range is an outdoor facility that allows clay and paper targets at 25 to 300 yards. Seasonal hunting is permitted in the over eleven thousand acres of DFG land. Always shoot safely and follow regulations. Discharge of firearms is NOT allowed inside Collins Lake Recreation Area.

E Street MX operates two loam/sand mix motocross tracks with both natural and man made terrain. The E Street track is under the E Street bridge. The Riverfront Park track is located under the 10 St. bridge on the Marysville side of the Feather River. E Street MX is constantly making changes to the track so you are never bored. The track is watered and prepped multiple times during the day to ensure you are riding on a quality track. Both facilities are open to the public for practices and races

Departs from County Road 511 and travels along Peterson Ridge near Sly Creek Reservoir. Parts of this trail are recommended for 4-wheel drive only. Race Track Point is approved for Off Highway Vehicles (2004, always check current regulations).

Travels through the historic gold mining areas of Port Wine, Poverty Hill, Scales and Union Hill. This scenic historic route is for licensed drivers and street legal vehicles only. (2004, always check current regulations).
Lexington Hill Rd

This trail begins in LaPorte, past Lexington Hill. After about 14 miles following the ridgeline the trail terminates at Sly Creek Reservoir. This trail is rated easy and is approved for OHV use. (2004, always check current regulations).
Cleghorn Bar Rd

Starting just off Quincy-La Porte Rd toward Cleghorn Bar, this route is considered easy excepting the last 4 miles which are rated difficult. This route is about 16 miles long and is approved for Off Highway Vehicles. (2004, always check current regulations).

Great Mexican cuisine. El Charrito's is famous for their tacos, enchiladas, carne asada and especially their gigantic super burritos. Expect to spend six to twelve dollars. If you eat in they'll treat you to Mexican chips and salsa. El Charrito's is about 6 miles from the Collins Lake.
