Trout Remain Shallow

The forecast shows all week is going to be mostly sunny with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50’s with low winds. With weather so nice we’re starting to fill in on the weekends but it is PRIME SEASON for Weekday Spring Camping— if you can escape the grind it’s the best time to enjoy the 100% full lake before the summer crowds take hold. The surface temperature is about 59°F and water clarity continues to improve, 5 to 8ft depending on the part of the lake, and while the majority are still being caught on PowerBait near shore we’re starting to see a few trout caught trolling and on lures.

We’re also entering pre-spawn for Bass, so if you’re out doing catch and release, snap a photo send it to fishing@collinslake.com !

Jason & Evan spent Jason’s 10th birthday trout catching down at the shoreline below the store at Collins Lake. Happy Birthday Jason!

Jacob Caplan caught his Lightning Trout using green PowerBait below campsite #488 tucked in Elmer’s Cove. Paul Newman caught his the Rainbow Trout using PowerBait at the other end of the lake near the dam. Zach Graham landed his 5-3/4lb lightning trout, again using PowerBait (this will become thematic), right in the middle— near the beach.

The Estey group brought home a triple-limit showing a good mix of rainbows and lightning trout on the far side of the lake near the east shore using PowerBait and hotdogs. What a great day!

Savannah & Kaleigh reeled in a mix of rainbow trout a 3-3/4 pound lightning and a huge 1-3/4lb Redear Sunfish shore fishing. Great catching girls!

Seamus & June caught a stringer full of big rainbows using Yellow PowerBait down by the dam. Kolten loaded up the Collins Lake bragboard with a limit of trout caught using chartreuse PowerBait along the shoreline.

Llani Corona of Yuba City caught this beautiful trophy trout on green glitter PowerBait out in front of the Lakeview Group area. Cindy Morrison brought home a limit of trout including a lightning trout trolling lures over near the east side of the lake. Beth Leclair from Lower Lake, California caught her 4.75lb rainbow trout using PowerBait.

The Laucirica family of Oakley, along with their possibly shy dog, brought in 12 rainbow trout casting lures in Elmer’s Cove!

Finally we were excited to receive a supplemental warm water species plant that included 3000 juvenile Black Crappie! These 2-3″ planters will double in size every month or so until they’re full grown (at least the ones that don’t enter the other part of the food chain). It’s the perfect time to plant with so much submerged habitat that can provide good shelter for these fish to get their start!

Grab a kayak, or some flip-flops, whatever it takes, but make sure you get out and enjoy some sunshine and the outdoors!
