Trolling Trout Takes Off

Collins Lake is still 100% full and occasional cold days have kept the surface temperature low hovering right around 50°C, which means you can still find lots of trout in the top 10ft. While shore fishing with Powerbait isn’t a bad plan we have definitely noticed an uptick in catches made trolling and casting lures.

Tony and Oliver Graziani were trolling the east side with spoons and brought in these two beautiful lunkers.

Laura caught an 8.5lb using a Rapala and then added a 4lb fish to her stringer. Taylor Terrell’s first fishing trip at Collins Lake turned out well with 3 trout, including a beautiful Golden Rainbow “Lightning” Trout caught mid-lake with watermelon grubs only about 10ft down.

Bob Hess was fishing with his buddy and long time Collins Lake angler Mark Evans when he hooked and landed this monster 10lb 2oz rainbow trout using a red & gold crocodile lure out along the main channel.

Jim & Melissa Goehring were happy to be showing off their 7lb trout caught trolling a triple teaser lure. Sherri Tham caught her trout down by the dam.

Irene and Lily caught five trout at the south end of the park near the dam using Powerbait, including a Lightning Trout!

Finally we should say that there have been a few unseasonably early catfish caught, including this one that Hayden caught mid-lake weighing in at 7.5 lbs. It seems that the bass we saw in early march have slowed their bite, but that didn’t stop Carol Cabral from landing two while fishing with Powerbait!
