3000 Pounds of Trout Planted, more on the way…

Just a brief update to say the Fall trout planting program is off to a successful start with two private plants totaling 3,000 pounds in the last week.  Both plants included trophy trout!  Our third private plant is scheduled between between Monday and Friday next week.

As the surface temperature continues to drop we’re seeing trout surfacing just about all day long.  Even with the visible surface activity it can be challenging get them to bite, but it’s almost never a terrible idea to cast where the fish are feeding.  Mike Wills told us they were watching the water swirl all around so his wife cast a Needlefish and hooked a four pound trout right up top (Not pictured);  Not conventional for our lake but different strategies for different seasons.

I’ve heard of several catches trolling down around 30ft but there is abundant evidence that the bite is moving up.  For one thing we’re actually seeing a good number of shore catches.  Dennis, Tanya, Tiffany & Matt hooked a nice rainbow on a worms, right out in front of camp #52.

Jack Eaton was shore fishing with rainbow PowerBait when he reeled in his 3 1/2 pounder.  Steve Long did the same.  And kids fishing out by the dam didn’t come up empty handed either.  Andrew & Joey made their catch on a salmon egg and Jael caught his rainbow trout on yellow PowerBait.

Trout have finally over-taken catfish.  It’s normal since, as people get excited about trout plants, that’s mostly what they’re fishing for.  But catfish are hungry all year round so even if you’re dropping pink PowerBait from the shore you might do like JR Lozano from Woodland did out in front of camp #202, and pull up an 8 1/2 pound silver beast of a cat.

With 3000 pounds of trout already in, another 2000 pounds going in next week, and weekly plants to follow I expect trout are going to dominate for the next month.  Still if you’re catching bass, catfish or panfish I’d love to hear about that too.  Send us your picture/story to share:

The forecast has highs in the 70’s all week long.  It’s clear, clean and quiet, the perfect time to come and enjoy the lake!
