Collins Lake is so FULL for July

Campers are elated with their lakefront sites, they are actually on the lake this year!!  It has been a terrific year since our lake is full, it is much more pleasing for campers, fishermen, and swimmers alike!  Even the Trout seem to be hanging out more shallow than normal for this time of year when they should be deep.  Shore fishing for Trout is only late at night, most of them are being caught from boats, either trolling or bottom fishing during the day.   George Larrabee, Rob Smith & Pedro Vargas “hit the jackpot” and left with 3 limits of Trout and one had a red tag which netted them a quick $100 bucks! They drifted in front of the dam using chartreuse powerbait floating just off the bottom.  Hannah of Tracy caught 4 Trout (almost a limit) also on green powerbait by the dam!

The BIG NEWS of the week is John Herrera’s 15 lb. 12 oz. Catfish which he caught by the dam on a little bitty fishing pole using worms and powerbait.  He also caught 4 Trout with help of Larry, Josh, & Hannah of Dixon.  Jack Pang of Vallejo limited out on Rainbows by the dam, his biggest was a 4 lb. 12 oz. Trout.  Ron Fascenda of Pacifica caught a 5 lb. Trout by the dam on a worm & a bobber, he mentioned he was down about 25 feet.

Other Trout catches went to  Curtis Filer of SAC,  a nice (2 pounder)-Nolan How of Tracy (4 Trout total) on green powerbait by the dam, Jimmy Martin of Burbank hooked a 4 pound Trout by the power lines on a worm, and Maddy, Matt, & Ted of Lincoln who fished near the bridge on sherbet powerbait (6 total)!

Rick Hackney of Yuba City limited out with the help of his buddy Ken of Marysville trolling a dodger and a worm in the middle of the lake. Justin Parra of Antioch caught two Trout and his biggest topped the scale at 4 lb. 8 oz., he used green powerbait from his boat.  Heidi Dimeola and Shannon worked hard for 2 Trout they caught from their boat on power bait.

Catfishing really picked up in the last couple of days. Besides the monster catch we had some other awesome catches.  Klint, James, Anthony and Taylor had a stringer weight around 15 lbs. of CATS.  Brothers Dave & Mark Zaski of Reno caught a great stringer using Anchovies on the east side, their biggest was a 6 pounder.   Jerry Freeman of Live Oak fished in Elmer’s Cove last  night and caught 4 Cats, and he said chicken livers worked the best for him. His biggest was 7 lb. 6 oz., then a 4 lb. & a 3 lb. 8 oz. and last but not least a 2 pounder.
