The last of the net pens was released on Monday and a Trophy later in the week, bringing our fish planting season officially to an end for this spring. Since our lake “FILLED” for the first time in a few years, we will be planting in the FALL also. Mike Kolko and his son Jeff finished off their campout with a double limit of Trout and they trolled Rapalas or Kastmasters. Les & Bev Nason of SAC worked pretty hard for their limit trolling worms & powerbait. They didn’t give up and it paid off for them!

Louis & Jennifer Zandonella brought their little guy Dominic up for a campout and fishing trip. Dominic didn’t feel very good when they got here and he took a nose dive out of the motorhome but managed to pick himself up and fish with DAD and caught a Trout by the bridge using powerbait. Dominic is a Ninja turtle, tough to the end!! Dylan, Blaine, and Danny of Marysville are die hard fisherboys too! They “always catch fish at Collins Lake” and spend many hours at the lakes edge fishing from shore by the dam or beach using powerbait. Jerzi & Jaidyn Brown along with Gabi Fregoso of Live Oak fished Elmer’s Cove with powerbait and hooked a RED TAG Trout ($100 cash), they scored!!

Another RED TAG winner this week was little Mateo Guzman (he’s pictured in his Thomas the Train shirt)! Mateo was fishing with Cindy Corral and they were using yellow powerbait along the sandy beach area. A few days later Cindy caught a 5 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow off the beach on yellow powerbait. Daniel & Christian & little Anthony had their picture taken more than once and the last one was a DOOZY. Daniel & Christian caught a 7 lb. 12 oz. Trout on chartreuse powerbait.
Roy Ahner & Jack Beachum’s biggest Trout was a 3 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow and they found the best luck sitting in a cove using powerbait from their boat. Gerri Morrison of Clearlake ended her spring fishing at Collins Lake with a limit of Rainbows and a hug for me (I sure love her)! It’s hard not getting too attached to our customers, they are so nice!! Mark Okasaki caught a Trout from shore on yellow powerbait and Josh Tillery of Reno used worms and hooked a Trout in front of his campsite.
The Trout are still shallow, either shore fishing or trolling near the top is working well. The bass are nearing the end of their spawning period as we near the month of June. That means the Crappie & Bluegill will be on the bite soon and the Trout will start to go deeper.

Local guys, Russ & Karl Mitchell of Loma Rica & Bob Curtis of Browns Valley slaughtered the Trout using powerbait by the bridge. Their stringer included 13 Trout total and they feasted that night! Mike Ramon of Yuba City was also fishing behind the bridge and captured a Rainbow Trout that weighed in at 5 pounds, using powerbait.
David & Hailey Herrick defied all Trout laws and hooked a 7 lb. CATFISH from shore in the Open Area. They later hooked a Trout in Elmer’s Cove on orange powerbait. Tim Johnston of Grass Valley was surprised by a 1-1/2 lb. Bluegill while trolling a nightcrawler near the dam.

Browns Valley residents Joe Galea & his son Jairiko had a “fishing trip to remember” with the biggest stringer they’ve seen in awhile. Topping their stringer was a 5 lb., a 4lb. 2 oz., and another 4 lb. Trout an they were tossing Kastmasters near the beach. Robert Kimball of Yuba City took a 2 lb. 12 oz. Trout which he caught trolling worms. Nick & Doug Trejo of Yuba City trolled Wobblers in front of the beach and netted a limit of Trout.
Leslie Gaines of SAC had a blast fishing from the dock using live crawdads and her friend Ann Cantell of Vacaville donned her the “Dock Queen”. She fished with live crawdads and her biggest weighed 4 lb. 8 oz. and she released them back. Our employees Scott De Alba & sister Sara weathered the storm and caught a Rainbow Trout and sent their photos to me from their boat!
