Two more RED TAGS ($100) fish were caught on 5/18 off the beach
Fishing is fun, but “catching is amazing” !! The pictures and stories are flooding in day after day since the weather got warmer, the fish are hungrier! The best proof I have of that is Mitchell & Christopher Sill of Sacramento (father & son) who camped here this week. Mitchell said they didn’t have much luck trolling so they decided to fish from shore instead and every day they limited out on Trout and as a bonus they caught 2 Catfish over 7 pounds. They used orange powerbait and fished in the Open Area where they were camping. Another father & son team got better and better each day they fished, ending their last day with 2 full limits of Trout. Mike Kolko of Hollister & his son Jeff of San Jose trolled mostly with Rapalas or Kastmasters. Lewis Chauvin of Lincoln caught the biggest Trout this week, a 9 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow trolling a Yourzi lure on the east side!

Jaceson Smith of SAC and his twin boys, Jacob & Jesse & daughter Alexis proudly showed off their 8 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow Trout they caught in 20′ of water under the power lines on green powerbait. Little baby Dominic Zandonella helped his Dad Louis hook a Trout on the east side. Little Devon Padgett caught his 1st fish on red powerbait, it was a 4 lb. 4 oz. monster! Ernie Borello had a memorable fishing trip with his daughter Jen and grandson Noah Borchelt. On their stringer of five Rainbows the biggest one was four pounds. They trolled Needlefish or Rainbow Runners near the dam. Dave Stenhart of Roseville drifted pink power bait near the power lines and netted a 4 lb. & a 3 lb. Rainbow Trout. Robert Crawford limited out on the east side floating rainbow powerbait.

The women did just as great as the guys this week!! Ann Cantrell & her friend Leslie caught 2 limits of Bass and a 7 lb. 4 oz. Catfish using live crawdads, while Leslie’s “honey do” stayed back and cleaned their trailer! Sounds like a great plan to me….. Nancy Perkins of Auburn pulled a 5 lb. 1 oz. Rainbow out of the lake using a dodger and a worm combo. Pat Rebello & her friend Bev Nason of Sac. left poor Lester behind and trolled with worms or fished with power bait and caught a whole stringer of Trout. Les & Bev went out today and landed a beautiful limit using worms and power bait also.
Jessica Waters was so darned excited to catch her biggest fish ever, a 3 lb. 2 oz. Rainbow and her friend Julie netted it for her. Their official fishing names are now the Happy Hooker (Jessica of course) and the Pro Netter (that would by Julie). Dorothy & her husband Richard Wilkins trolled worms with a pinch of powerbait on the hook and caught six trout.

Milan Rapo of Martinez trolled using a Flatfish only ten feet down and hooked a 6 lb. 4 oz. Rainbow Trout. Ryan Barella brought his wife Bari, and daughter Lauren on this fishing trip and they had no trouble catching Rainbows once the rain & hail stopped!! Their biggest one weighed 4 lbs. and they trolled worms with no flashers. Cathy Burch of Yuba City caught two trout over 3 lbs. on yellow powerbait near the marina.
Congrats to Calvin Bailey of Reno, NV. who caught his 1st fish ever on chartreuse powerbait!! Jimmy & Nick Trejo used Wobblers and trolled shallow on the east side and took home a stringer of nine Rainbow Trout. Tom Bastion of SAC used yellow power bait at the bottom of road six (Open Area) and netted a 5 lb. Rainbow Trout.

Jordan Neal of SAC reluctantly held up his 4 lb. 8 oz. Trout (it kind of scared him a bit)! Jordan is my hero, he faced his fears and did it anyway! Murphy Bonner & Calvin Anderson of SAC had a super duper day of fishing . A 4 lb. 8 oz. Trout and a 3 lb. 4 oz. Trout topped their stringer of six fish. Gerald Mitchell of Rocklin fished up in the north end trolling Cripplures and netted four Rainbows, and his biggest was a 4 pounder. Jer & Abraham of SAC were bottom fishing up near the bridge, in a boat, using worms and were pleasantly surprised when they pulled up a 4 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow Trout.
