Young Carson Sanders caught his 1st fish at Collins Lake on a worm and Powerbait in the Open Area. He made his Grandpa Kit & his Grandma Cindy very proud. Rick Best is an oldster, who has been camping here since 1995 and never caught a fish here until this week. Hooray for Rick, he landed 2 Catfish over 4 lbs. and a Trout. He broke “the spell” and I know I’ll be seeing him again real soon. Anchovies is what he used to catch all his fish.
A private plant arrived late on Thurs. 3/11 and from here on out we will get planted every single week with Trophy sized Trout.

This past week we saw lots of Trout being caught, the season is upon us! Chan Chandler of Grass Valley left with 4 Trout and he trolled Rapalas by the dam in ten feet of water. Joe Duran outdid himself from the week before with a 3 lb. 8 oz. Trout he caught with chartreuse Powerbait off the beach. Captain Bob from Sonoma returned with a vengeance and vindicated his past record with a 2 lb. 8 oz. Rainbow. He trolled a white Cripplure-also in ten feet of water.

The women are getting in on the catch action this week! Melissa Hartman of Santa Rosa trolled a Sep’s chartreuse colored lure and brought in 4 nice Trout. Jessica Baldwin of Marysville used a Super Vibrax #2 gold off the shore and netted a 2 lb. 8 oz. Trout. Shell Royal caught the “fish fever” and produced a 2 lb. 8 oz. and a 3 lb. 8 oz. Trout trolling Cripplures off the dam.

Sparky from Grass Valley used a floating worm by the dam and was surprised when he reeled in his 3 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow. Bryce Ancheta of Marysville & his Dad had a fun day of fishing on the lake. They trolled by the beach using Rapalas and worm with a Dodger on the other pole and each caught a 2 lb. Trout plus a bonus 3 lb. 8 oz. Trout. David Bunting of Colusa fished by the dam from shore and used either Sherbert or Chartreuse Powerbait and took home a stringer weight of 11 lb. 8 oz. of Trout.

Rodger Alvis and his brother Al and nephew Robert fished last week and Rodger got skunked while Al & Robert of Antelope caught 2 Trout over two pounds. Not fair either cause it was Rodger’s boat, but he smiles anyway, he’s just that kind of a guy. They trolled with fire tiger colored Rapalas by the dam in shallow water they said. After Al & Robert went home, Rodger & Kay stayed in the campground for a few more days and lo and behold Rodger caught the biggest Trout this week so far! His beautiful Bow weighed 4 lb. 9 oz. and he caught it trolling a worm in shallow water near their campsite. Yeah, he’s gloating just a little…………..

Edward Burchardt of Chico tried his own technique and it worked beautifully! He fished off the face of the dam with a worm & salmon egg combo and caught a huge 4 lb. Rainbow Trout. Mike Carpaneto & his Dad had a great time camping this week. Even though Dad got skunked he was tickled to see his son Mike land 2 gorgeous Rainbows at 3 pounds each. He didn’t have to go far either, he caught them in front of his campsite using chartreuse powerbait.
Kevin Welker also did real well trolling broken back minnow lures and his biggest came in at 3 lb. 12 oz.
