The lake surface temperature jumped this past week up to 64 degrees in the am to 74 degrees in the pm. Crappie are on the bite, Jesse Joseph & his son Owen took home a stringer of six. On 4/21 Jim Cooper of Alamo hooked a gigantic 11-3/4 lb. Rainbow Trout in 10′ of water trolling a Shasta Flee Bitty. Needlefish lures worked well for Richard Uncapher & Art Wong who brought up a 6-1/2 lb. Rainbow.

Michael Lawson of Larita won the Collins Lake Weekly Derby with a 6 lb. 12 oz. Rainbow Trout he caught on yellow powerbait by the Open Area where he was camping. In fact he “broke the camera” and I went down to get another picture with a different camera and made him take it out of the freezer to get another shot at it!! Another “dam success story” came from Bill Geisick of Grass Valley who landed his 7 lb. 4 oz. Beauty by the dam on powerbait as well.

Campers are catching limits of Trout right in front of their campsites, thanks to the releasing of the net pens. Powerbait works best and worms are second best. The Johnson Family Reunion brought them from Arizona, Idaho, and California. Working together, they all limited out in front of their site on chartreuse powerbait. Don, Hoss, & Lola are locals that love fishing this time of year, and they do so well. Together they took home 3 limits, two of them were over 3 pounds, using broken back Rapalas. The King family caught a royal bunch of Trout using powerbait on the east side also. They landed 3 limits and their biggest weighed 4 lb. 4 oz.

John & Cheryl Schembari have been kickin it all week on Trout catches! Cheryl started with a 5-1/2 lb. caught from her campsite on Powerbait. Together they landed a limit across the lake. Then John got “one up” on Cheryl with a 6-1/2 lb. then Cheryl ended with a 4 pounder.

Matt & Anthony hooked 10 bass using plastic lizards by the 5 mph buoys and the largest was a 2 lb. 8 oz. Anthony Crawford of Chico could barely hold up his limits of Trout (stringer weight 17 lbs.) and his bigggest weighed 6-3/4lb. which he caught from a boat on Powerbait on the eastside.
